Melissa and I are going to Oktoberfest with the Erasmus (Exchange) Student Network from the Universität Wien in two weeks. We both decided it was worth the investment to go all out and get ourselves
Dirndls. Melissa has been researching stores like crazy, and today we finally went to a dirndl "outlet" store and ABSOLUTELY scored. I think it is destiny that brought me to my dirndl---I had a couple others to try on, but didn't give them a second glance after I buttoned up the front and poofed my sleeves. And, yes I know, it is red, white, and blue, so I can wear it to celebrate the 4th of July, as well as to every festival in a German-speaking country.
Both Melissa and I were a bit unsure of how the dirndls were supposed to fit, particularly the bust, to which the shopkeeper replied that they should be close-fitting, we should wear push-up "B-Hs" (bras). I felt like I was back in the costume hall at WA being talked over by the costume ladies...it was awesome.
The shopkeeper gave us other helpful Oktoberfest hints, including the importance of which side you tie the bow of your apron on. Left, you're single and looking for love. Right, you're taken. She
stressed the importance of tying the bow on the correct side...
